 Lump on my koi what is it

Hi there all one of my koi looks like it might have bumped itself and i dont know on what but i have noticed a lump forming just behind the scratch what should i do and what could it be. here is a pic of it. i noticed the scratch about 2 weeks ago it was not open so i did not think anything of it but just noticed the lump 2 days ago

Hi,

I would say it is Papilloma a viral infection which tends to effect Koi in periods of lower water temperature. It is a relativly harmless disease and it does not pose a major threat to your Koi.
The average zise of the "lump" or tumour-like growths is around 5mm and is red or pink.
There is no cure for this, and it should go away as the water temperature increase.
The growth could be removed sugically.

In concur Peter.
Also called carp pox. Once the water warms up it is gone.
bit of a pain at show time though.

David,

Both Carp Pox and Papilloma are viral infections. They both respond in the same way.
Carp Pox is easily identified by hard, white waxy lumps and Papilloma may reveal itself by a presence of tumors with a reddish to pink appearance.
