Koi Tale

Hi Members,

One of my fish swam over my rim flow.

We found him when we went to feed this morning.

Fortunately he was still alive.

In the process of trying to catch him his tale was damaged.

1) Do they grow back?

2) Does he need treatment?

3) Is Euthanasia required?

We are now installing a 17m x 200mm x 6ml perspex off set barrier.

Thanks

Anton

I will be posting varieties under this new category for discussion. Please feel free to add any new variety for discussion under the same topic or post some of your shiros on this thread.

The first variety under discussion is the Shiro Utsuri.

The following is one of my local bred Shiros, not top quality, 60+ cm. Any views on the pros and cons will be appreciated.

Goshiki

Goshiki's changes colour depending on the temperature of the water.

Goshiki means five colours.

I don't like the normal Wagoi version when small, but after two to three years, they develop into stunning fish.

The Doitsu version is quite rare, and I seldom see one in South Africa.

It is pronounced Gosh-ki and not Gosh-Shi-Ki

Goshiki's are a cross between Kohaku and Asagi, where the Asagi is dominant (male)

You get two types of Goshiki apart from the Sanke Goshiki ...

I am not a big fan of doitsu kois as i think they are inferior. I have had a couple in the past and not one was free of problems.

Some of the issues i had:

1. Slow growth (3 years old and stil 30cm long)

2. Getting fat very quickly.

3. Internal tumours

4. Damage to the skin and leaves a mark.

Why i say they are inferior: My information below regarding the genetics come from a discussions i had with Servaas De kock regarding doitsu

1. Doitsu fish have less vertabra than ...

Hallo almal.

Ek hoop om so oor ±2 weke my eerste Kois te koop.

Ek wil graag intussen solank begin uitvind watter Kois ek kan oorweeg.

1. Ek is nie 'n teler nie.
