I need some help from everyone especially people using Shogun Koi food. I use to feed my Koi Tetra 3-in-1 pond sticks and was happy with it. Then after speaking to various people I thought I'd try Shogun. I bought 1 pack around 3 months ago and this weekend I opened a new pack I bought. I noticed that my fish weren't eating as eagerly as before with the Tetra and now with the new pack of Shogun they are eager at feeding time again. I've been having problems with illness (bacteria) and I ...

Silkworm Pupae

It is no secret that Japanese breeders use silkworm pupae extensively during the summer to grow and prepare their koi for the market. Likewise Japanese hobbyists use silkworm pupae to provide growth and improve body shape, colour and gloss in preparing their koi for shows.

Silkworm pupae have been the main source of animal protein for koi since the early days of koi culture in Niigata when it was typically ...

Hi All

I heard last week from my koi dealer that the importers of Aqua Master does not have any growth, premium or staple left in South Africa and they wont be importing any until December. As far as i understand they only have Wheatgerm left. I have mailed the importer directly to get the info directly from the source. I also notice that the webste www.aquamasterkoifood.com is offline...

Now for me personally not having Aqua Master is a bit of a setback as that is the main food that ...

Hi,

Just chatting to the factory that makes my koi food.

The price of raw materials is just going mad. Fish meal for example has gone up twice this month and now stands at over R9,000 per ton. Compare this to a price of R3,500 per ton about 3 - 4 years ago.

It seem strange as the demand for many things is falling with the world economic crises in full swing.

I also see the rand / yen exchange rate is half that from Septemner last year. This will make imported foods very expensive ...

Melamine now hits fish feed [Hong Kong]

The Standard

November 12, 2008

The melamine scare has spread from baby formula to animal feed after a sample of feed used at a fish farm on Lantau Island was found to contain traces of the chemical.

It is the first time melamine has been found in animal feed, according to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.

Hong Kong has informed the mainland because the product was from Zhuhai.

For those of you who want to create your own koi food, herewith the Nutritional values of various food. This was sourced from the Koi Health and Nutrition manual issued by SAKKS and I believe the Nutrition section was contributed by Chris Neaves, our fellow forum member.

However, I believe it is better to stick with commercial food which is hopefully fully balanced after due consideration of the demand of Koi.
