How do diagnose Dropsy?

I had another fish loss. Fish of about 20cm. Looks like dropsy to me since it had a swollen abdominal and scales sticking out. Finrot. No popping out eyes or ulcers. This is just guess work and I would like to know what procedure to follow to make the correct diagnoses?

I read that people take a sample and send it to a lab but not sure how to do this. Must the fish still be alive? Do you send a scrape? Blood sample? Do you put the dead fish in an envelope and mail it somewhere?

A couple on months after this 58cm Nagoshi Kindai Show landed she was attacked by bacterial infections and I have been nursing her for the past 16 months. Over the winter period I had a 2kw heater running full time and today she showed a very definite improvement from her last lift 6 weeks ago and to me it looks like she is at last on her way back to recovery. I received lots of help and advice from many Koi keepers over this period in time. Without their input and help this Kindai would have ...

Don’t think the Koi will make it, but I have tried. The rest of the Koi seems to be happy and this is the last one with ulcers. (Except the big one with eye problem)

Bacterial infection - antibiotics - Baytril

The most common bacterial infections that affect koi are Aeromonas and Pseudomonas, normally introduced or multiplied as a result of poor water conditions and stress. They gain access to the koi orally, but mainly through open wounds. The most common result of bacterial infections is ulcers and finrot. Another bacterial infection is cotton wool disease caused by the bacterium Flexibacter. It causes white cotton wool type of threads almost like a fungus.

FIN ROT, GILL ROT, MOUTH ROT

It starts with reddening of the fins, gills or mouth and is caused by Flexibacter columnaris which is a bacteria. If not treated immediately, it will eat the fin away or create serious rotting at the mouth area. You have to take the fish out and treat the infected area with a topical treatment of undiluted Malachite green. It is also a good idea to add terramycin powder(Anti biotic) to the malachite green and you should seal it with Friars Balsam. In serious ...

Good Day,

I need help. Seems my koi's are sick, but not all of them. I think it might be fin rot, but not sure. I'm sending pics with, if you can help or point me or point me into a direction.

I did buy medicine from petshop for fin rot, I use salt in the water. Water is clean with plants in. Enough movement of water and air.

Thanx

Abri
