Hi ... I am a new guy here ... this is my story ... as posted on another forum.

From the day that I moved into my new Study and looked through the window I knew that I wanted a Koipond. The lawn are was just way to big and during Winter it looks like a semi desert. The half dead grass is depressing to say the least and I wanted to reduce that dramatically.

The large open lawn is visible here and it is obvious that there is a lot of maintenance involved in this area. We have problems ...

I have decided to rebuild my existing 8500l pond due to the massive leakage of water. I am using the same area, as this is next to my braai area and will use most of the old structures. I will dig to 2m, but the concrete slab will make the pond shallower. I also want to re-plaster the settlement chamber.

Some photos:

As it was

Empty pond:

Will start digging on Saturday. Please advise as I go on.

Hi,

I just got my temporary pond from the friendly taupaulin makers in Natal.

I need to setup the temp pond and move my fish out immediately.

Should I move the water from my pond to the temp pond?

What filtration will suffice while they are in there? Submersible pump and biofilter with UV enough? Can I just move media from my other bio filter outside into the new one?

HOw long does the new pond need to run if I had moved the media and water before moving the fish?

Thanks,

I have become 'involved' with Koi by accident! I'm presently building a pond but have rather strict deadlines. By the end of this month (JUNE) my pond construction must be completed - it will be! By 10th July I need to take the fish. A friend is moving to a townhouse. He has given me a 3 bag koi sandfilter, pump, 2 x biofilters, UV light ....on condition I take his koi 'family'....13 koi ranging in size from 20 - 60 cm. Unfortunately I can't take the pond!

My concrete pond will hold 16000 litres, ...

Hi Guys,

Here are pictures of a design I made in Google Sketchup. (Thanks Wayne for the tip)

Please give me your comment of water returns, bottom drain positions and a skimmer box position. Or if you think it is totally useless, tell me as well.

Pond dimensions on 3 X 2 X 2. The edge around the centre water fall is supposed to be a 45 degree angle but I couldn't get that right in Sketchup.

Thanks,

Should I use plaster key to seal, after sandpapering it, and then try and paint?

I attach some photos

Hi - a new method of building a koi pond - make a simple engineering mistake.

Makes you think Colyn - it could have been so much easier for you!

Kind regards

Chris

1) Dig a hole

2) Make sure you have a leak and the walls are thin and not reinforced.

3) Add a little water

4) Bingo a koi pond AND you can use the crain to lift your jumbo koi

Please share any regrets you had when building your first pond.

Attached the first phase of my new pond.

One thing I do not have is an inch of extra space.

Looking to place a window from the filter area next to skimmer, space permitting.

Please comment should have done this differently with the limited space

I am new to the Koi hobby and is currently planning a 25000lt pond with outside measurements of 5.2 x 2.4 x.2.2 due to space constraints.

I own a few above average Koi with growth potential and would like to create a good environment for future growth. Part of my planning is a Nexus 300, Easy Pod, Trickle Towers, and Air Dome Bottom Drains.

I am getting mixed signals from my fellow Koi Keepers re the question about pond returns, top, mid and bottom for the purposes of Koi exercise by means ...

OK, I thought that i will share with everybody my ponds progress.

This was my original pond (10 000L) that i constructed in 2005.

In April 2007 i decided that i wanted to go bigger...as all koi keepers usually do. The idea was to break the existing pond wall to expand the pond with an extra 4 meters in length.

Here you can see where we knocked the pond wall down.

In this image you can see the foundations of the walls. Yeah, please notice the clay we had to ...
