I purchased this Sanke on 1 February 2009, but left it with the dealer, because my quarantine pond had already Koi in it.

On 18 March 2009 my Son collected the Sanke with other Koi from the Dealer.

I noticed a small bulge on the abdomen of the Sanke about 2 cm from the right pectoral fin.

My fist thought was that this was caused when the Koi was bagged at the dealer.

But, within one week the bump grows bigger. On April 22nd, I found the Koi ...

Hi,

Are there any koi keepers out there who have expereinced dropsy in their koi collections over the past year?

Genuine dropsy with the bloated bodies and pine cone scales.

If so - a further question: was the dropsy confined to a single koi or did you find dropsy in several koi? Even if this occured over time. (they did not all have to get dropsy at the same time).

Thanks,

I noticed for the past week that this fish swam a bit "unbalanced". Caught him today and noticed the bloody spots on all the fins.

I haven't tested my water, but all the other fish are healthy. Is this fin rot? I leave tomorrow for the week, any shot gun treatment to advise for this afternoon??. Or should I get rid of the fish, not valuable, i think and approximately 15cm in size.

Fungal diseases

This is also known as Cotton wool disease and the most common fungal disease is caused by the fungus Saprolegnia. In a healthy pond system, it is very rare, but can cause serious problems and death when the mucus coat of the fish is damaged due to jumping, flashing or other physical injuries. A Fungal infection is usually a secondary infection after a parasite invasion.

It often ruins a spawning as it attacks the dead eggs. Therefor it is extremely important to treat ...

Hi ,

My name is Mark Shepherd. One of my koi +/- 45cm seems to spend 98% of the time on the bottom of the pond ( 15000 litres) all of the other koi are extremely active and are eating well. I think the problem may be to do with parasites and minimum gill movement. Have treated the pond with 15kg of salt. What recommmended procedure would you suggest in order to assist this koi. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Many Thanks ,

During the last five years I had no problems with my pond. This year however, the Koi flash and are lethargic, just lying at the bottom. I went to a Koi dealer, and he gave me Malachite green to treat, but I do not see any changes. Is Malachite green the right treatment? I also have green algae on the sides of my pond which I never had before. What is the problem?
