Hi ... I am a new guy here ... this is my story ... as posted on another forum.

From the day that I moved into my new Study and looked through the window I knew that I wanted a Koipond. The lawn are was just way to big and during Winter it looks like a semi desert. The half dead grass is depressing to say the least and I wanted to reduce that dramatically.

The large open lawn is visible here and it is obvious that there is a lot of maintenance involved in this area. We have problems ...

This was his first boat and he wasn't quite sure of the exact 'Standard Operating Procedures' for launching it off a ramp, but figured it couldn't be too hard.

He consulted his local boat dealer for advice; they just said "don't let the trailer get too deep when you launch the boat".

Well, he didn't know what they meant by that as he could barely get the trailer in the water at all! Anyhow, here's ...

I have created a new +- 100 000 liter pond (15 x 7) (in progress), to accommodate newly hatched fry.

I need to make an urgent decision.

Option 1

Only an air compressor with various air stones like most people do it.

Option 2

Two submersible pumps, each pulling from 15 meter x 40 mm irrigation pipes lying on the bottom, full of holes, covered with stockings to prevent the fry from being sucked in, and returning via bakki showers.

I will appreciate your inputs ...

I have got the second sand filter that starts to leak due to a hole/crack in the seam.

I fixed the first hole easily by drilling a large hole on that spot, and installed a tank connector with a screw lid on the connector. Quite handy, because I sometimes do backwashes using this opening by unscrewing the lid.

However, the hole on the other one is on the bend close to the top lid, and this trick will not work.

I have tried fiber glass, but because it is a plastic sandfilter, it ...

Can any one offer advice how to to fix a sandfilter lid?

During the coarse of last night my lid of my sand filter decided to spring a leak. It is held down by screws.

What appears to of happened is the threaded part in the housing of the filter has broken /split.

What I was thinking of doing is drilling a hole through the chamber anb using a brass bolt from the inside out and placing a wing nut on the top.

Has anyone experienced this kind of problem before?

I have decided to rebuild my existing 8500l pond due to the massive leakage of water. I am using the same area, as this is next to my braai area and will use most of the old structures. I will dig to 2m, but the concrete slab will make the pond shallower. I also want to re-plaster the settlement chamber.

Some photos:

As it was

Empty pond:

Will start digging on Saturday. Please advise as I go on.

The renewable energy sources are those which can be replenished again and again, without the fear of it getting extinct. Moreover, the renewable sources are environment friendly and does not cause any harm to the environment like the fossil fuels.

The major sources of renewable energy are the sun, wind and the ocean water. The amount of energy present in these sources is so large that ...

This forced TANESCO( Tanzanian Elect supply company) to switch the power off every second day for about 12 hours at a time. Needless to say I went out to buy a small generator just to keep things going.

The biggest ‘shock’ is the price:

Generator: Power rating: 3kW. Price: R1933.70

New to this here forum. Great site with alot of valuable information.

Did a search, could not find the information I needed.

I am in the process of building an indoor pond of about 700 litres (not for koi - too small). Intended for gold fish and some other species, would like to do a water wall effect of about 2m therefore I need a stronger pump. Now for my questions:

barley straw

hi Chris
i read in one of your responses that you had great success with the use of barley straw. i have tried it for about 8 months and it did not work for me.maybe the way i used it was incorrect. i piled some loosely into pantihose ( lol new ) and kept it afloat by corking it and tying it at my venturi return lines for extra oxygen .any comments as to how it should be positioned in the pond if i did it incorrectly? all comments welcome from all koi lovers
thanks

Oberving my top pond the water leaving sinks depending on the wind and heat, would be curious if that can be calulated.
