 | Subject: ULTRAZAP 25L COMBO FILTER WITH 8W UV Fri May 30, 2008 11:33 am | |
| Hello
As I am sure you are aware by now, I am in the process of planning my pond upgrade . At this stage it looks like I will end up with a pond around 5 000L to 6 000L.
On my current setup of around 2 000L I have no bottom drain & no mechanical filtration BIG PROBLEM!! As my submerable pump keeps clogging up & causes my flow rate to drop to a little tricle if I do not keep an eye on it.
Currently I only have biofiltration, 1st is a 150L drum with moving (airated) kaldness 50L) then it flows to an ULTRAZAP 25L (TRICLETOWER) FILTER WITH AN 8W UV bolt on. (GRAVITY FED)
According to the Manufacturer they recomend this for a 4000L pond. As I am working on a tight budget I would like to still use my Ultrazap filter as it has the UV that should be sufficient for a 6000L pond. As this would save me quite a bit of money.
My questions are.....
1) Will the Ultrazap handle higher flow rates?? If so what is the maximum?
2) If not, how can I modify it to handle more? & what do you think is the max that it can handle??
Please help |

| Hi Verynewtokoi
I have a simmilar setup in one of my ponds its 3000 Ltrs with a 4500 ltr per hour submercible. At the beginning I had on of those 25ltr Ultrazap combo filters on and it kept flooding so then I put a second one on and still it kept flooding then I drilled a few 4.8 mm holes in the feed pipe between the pump and the surface of the water and Whala it works so now I have 2 combo filters those that say they can handle 4000 ltr ponds and some current in the pond with the holes I drilled I'm planning on running the outlets of the gravity fed Ultrazaps to 2 200 ltr drums with shade cloth in for more bio filtration. When In Doubt Go Bigger and I love DIY stuff so I made a few of these drumm filters and a air driven skimmer and its working out quite well for me so far.
I hope this answers some of youre questions if you need pics of my setup or the drum filters or the skimmer just let me know and I will post them.
I also dont have a bottom drain in this pond but I got a little pond vacuum from builders warehouse and it works like a charm for under R 100.
I would not suggest modifying the Ultrazap combo filter I would just add more filters by splitting the feed from the pump or running a few barrel filters inline first for mech filtration then bio filtration if you really want to you could work the Ultrazap filter into a setup Like that rather than cutting it up. |
