We all love different variety Koi in our ponds. In the beginning we would love to have one of each but as you get more involved in the hobby you will get rid of some and start collecting only a few varieties.

What would you keep in a pond and why do you prefer your choice?

I like:

1. Tancho's
2. Utsuri's
3. Sanke's

It's really a matter of personal choice. But let's face it, a pond filled with ogons is going to be somewhat boring after a while?

I like a good collection of go sanke (including doitsu go-sanke, shiro's, gin rin and tanchos) with a good yamabuki ogon and/or asagi or shusui to offset things. A good metallic like a kujaku is also a very nice'to have. A nice big ochiba or Chagoi is also a must as they relax everybody once they get calm and big.

so in my world you need a BIG pond!

The most popular koi for various reasons are still, in this order:

1 Kohaku
2 Sanke
3 Showa
4 Utsuri

(most valuable four)

And then it is a personal choice, but my order would be

5 Ochiba
6 Purachina
7 Yamabuki
8 Hariwake
9 Kujaku
10 Goromo
11 Kumonryu
12 Shusui
13 Asagi
14 Saragoi
15 Chagoi
